Dental implants have emerged as the preferred procedure for many patients who have lost teeth due to age or injury. Implants involve two steps – implantation of tiny titanium posts into the gaps between teeth, and placement of natural-looking replacement teeth onto these posts. Instead of bridges or dentures, consider dental implants that recreate the look, feel, and function of your own natural teeth.
Everyone deserves to have an aligned, balanced smile, but many dread the old-fashioned metal braces that are the infamous hallmark of orthodontic treatment. Invisalign® offers discreet orthodontic care with a system of clear, custom-made aligners that fit in your mouth comfortably. These removable aligners will be replaced by new ones over time as the teeth shift gradually into place. Learn more about orthodontics with Invisalign®.
Healthy gums are vital to the proper functioning of the entire body. Our dentists treat gum disease with root planing and scaling, antibiotics, laser therapy, and surgery when necessary. Gum disease must be treated promptly to avoid damage to the teeth and gums. Porcelain crowns can strengthen and repair a tooth that has become discolored, worn down, or broken. Before a crown can be placed, our dentists must ensure that the damaged tooth is free of decay. The tooth to be crowned will then be roughened. An impression of this roughened surface will be made so that a crown can be custom-manufactured by a dental laboratory.
The crowns we use are color-matched to each patient’s teeth and have a custom fit for optimal comfort. When your crown arrives, it will be adjusted as necessary and bonded to your tooth. Crowns made of porcelain are stain-resistant, just like natural teeth. The newly crowned tooth will add strength, balance, and durability to your smile.
A full set of teeth is not only attractive, but also has many other benefits. Missing teeth can impede everyday tasks like speaking and eating. Dental bridges are composed of two crowns on either side of a gap that is “bridged” by a replacement tooth between them. Bridges restore the function and look of a full set of teeth, making chewing and speaking easier and giving patients the confidence to smile widely again.
Our dentists will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap to receive the crowns. This involves roughening the teeth so that the crowns may be attached securely. An impression of the teeth will then be made so a custom bridge can be manufactured to fit your mouth. When the bridge arrives, it will be adjusted for a proper fit and bonded to the teeth. Dental bridges restore function to your bite so that you will be able to chew, speak, and smile in a healthy, natural way.
Our dentists use the highest-quality biocompatible materials for all general dentistry procedures at La Costa Dental Excellence. When our patients need fillings to replace decayed portions of teeth, we use mercury-free composite fillings that match the color of the patient’s teeth. Composite fillings not only look better than traditional metal fillings, but also chemically bond to the teeth for extra support.
A damaged tooth that does not necessitate a crown sometimes requires more extensive treatment than a filling can provide. Inlays and onlays, sometimes referred to as indirect fillings, are highly durable and can restore a damaged tooth to its natural look and function. Inlays lie in the chewing surface of teeth, while onlays cover one or more cusps.
Porcelain veneers can restore strength to decayed and damaged teeth while concealing problems with your smile. Veneers are thin tooth-colored shells which fit over the fronts of the natural teeth for a stronger and more aligned smile. More information about porcelain veneers, including how they are placed and how much time this treatment requires, is available on our veneers page.
Missing and damaged teeth can severely hamper our patients' ability to lead normal lives. Dr. Dankworth and Dr. Corrigan-Dankworth give patients the freedom of a full set of teeth with custom dentures that look and feel natural. Restoring full functionality to your mouth is a matter of health as well as aesthetics. Dental implants are another restorative options for patients who are interested in a more permanent solution for missing teeth.
